The Grand Valley Old Boys play out of the Grand
Valley & District Community Centre, Friday nights at 9:00. The Community
Centre can be reached at 519-928-2830.
The Grand Valley Old
Boys was loosely formed in 1982 under the leadership of Reg Corbett. We got
together to play in a service club tournament in Arthur and enjoyed losing so
much; we decided to try to play on a regular basis. We started playing Friday
nights at 9 o’clock and have been ever since. We usually play a home and away
series with a number of teams and in 2001 – 2002 season; we played over 35
games plus were in 6 tournaments. Many players have since retired or moved away
but the team still is very active and hosted a tournament every year on the
last full weekend in March. March 28, 29, 30, 2003 will be our 13th
Annual Oldtimers Tournament and will be held in the Grand Valley & District
Community Centre.
Over
the years, Grand Valley has played in many tournaments, from Markdale, to St
Catharines, Niagara Falls, Damn Yankees, Ayton, Orangeville, Guelph, Kitchener,
St Clements, Dundalk, Owen Sound, Air Canada tournament in Toronto, and a few
more that the writer could not remember. Usually, we are the bridesmaids but
occasionally, we win a tournament.
Imagine, a bunch of old men getting excited about winning a t-shirt.
Some things will never change.
